COMMUNITY SERVICE

We instill within our students a respect for the individual, a commitment to Jewish values, and ties to our community. As students progress through Greenfield Day School our expectations rise, not only for their academic growth, but also for their awareness of becoming contributing members of our Jewish Community. Through acts of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World), our students have the ability to give back to the community by volunteering their time. Pirkei Avot (Sayings of the Sages) 1:2 and 1:18 says:

The World stands on three things: on the Torah, on worship and on acts of loving kindness.

These principles provide the opportunity for our students to apply what they have learned in school.

We believe in promoting our school’s mission and integrating the principles throughout the curriculum. The future of the Jewish community belongs to our children. How well we teach these values guides their understanding and Jewish heritage.

Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) requirements:

  • Students in MS will be required to complete 36 hours (double Chai) of community service in order to give back to the community.

  • Projects will be offered on the campus, here at school, and at the JCC for the students to sign up and to participate, as well as some programs set up by the school throughout the community.

  • Projects outside of school must be approved and supervised (students must have their project approved by Mr. Weiss).

  • Students will be asked to keep a journal of their volunteering experiences to be turned in every few months to Mr. Weiss for evaluation and assessment.
