Our Community
As we have grown into a K-8 school, we remain focused on maintaining a strong sense of community and Judaism. We have designed our entire program to create a seamless educational experience, ensuring a natural progression. Many of these commonalities are visible as one walks the school, but many more are about the culture that we create as members of the Greenfield Day School Community. Students feel this connection in all aspects of student life, academics, arts, sports, and more importantly, a sense of responsibility to the Jewish community, to Jewish values and to each other. We have created building blocks which foster smooth transitions between grades and provide a solid foundation for future growth.
Common experiences
Within academics, our philosophy of community translates into curriculum for our students. For example, one teaching tool in the primary grades is Unifix cubes, a manipulative where students can see numbers in units of ones, tens, hundreds, etc. This is one of the several languages and methods for teachers to use with all students.

Additionally, specific programs that deal with person-to-person and group interactions are part of each grade's curriculum. Our Character Education program spans all grades and teaches children weekly lessons on being a "mench." Serving as facilitators, teachers use a consistent vocabulary to introduce the character trait to be learned and students discuss various solutions or ways to address a situation. Another popular group activity is teen talk group sessions. Students discuss their feelings and ways to address specific teen problems. The students in the lower grades have a circle time where they learn about values and family traits that support our community theme. Through participation in these programs, our community has created a language for discussing and solving problems amongst all students and teachers.

Beginning in Middle School, students participate in an overnight trip as a group experience. All of these trips have an educational component, allowing students to combine fun with learning. Throughout the school, students participate in day-long trips related to their curriculum. Trips promote unity, allowing students to discover a new place together and share their experience with others. We provide opportunities for all students to share common experiences at all school assemblies, recess, lunch and school-sponsored activities like basketball games, Havdalah and Purim.

Expectations of Students
As students progress through Greenfield Day School, our expectations rise, not only for their academic growth, but also for their awareness of becoming contributing members to our Jewish community. Moreover, we give them more responsibility along with additional choices.

At the beginning of each year, teachers work together with their class to set rules and expectations for their classroom. This process is critical in allowing students to feel a sense of ownership of their education.

Stepping stones, building blocks, pieces of a puzzle; no matter how you see it, Greenfield's program works to create a complete experience for our children. At the heart of our community, students remain our focus as we continue to work to provide positive opportunities for them to grow, learn, and succeed.
